Green Grid Connect Partners with Pacific Green on Landmark Energy Storage Project

Mar 26, 2025

Green Grid Connect is proud to announce our partnership with Pacific Green in the development of the Limestone Coast North Energy Park in South Australia.

This significant project is a 250MW / 500MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) set to commence commercial operations in early 2027.

Strengthening Australia’s Renewable Energy Infrastructure

The Limestone Coast North Energy Park signifies a major milestone in Australia’s transition to a sustainable energy future. As part of this initiative, Pacific Green recently reached financial close and completed the sale of 100% of the project’s shares to Intera Renewables, the Australian renewable energy platform for the Palisade Group. The deal, valued at A$460 million (US$293 million), underscores the increasing importance of large-scale battery storage solutions for stabilising the grid and enhancing Australia’s energy security as we transition to renewables.

While ownership has transitioned to Intera, Pacific Green will continue to oversee the project’s construction through to commercial operations. Green Grid Connect,
a Gransolar Group company, has been entrusted as the balance of plant partner, playing a crucial role in the project’s execution.

GGC’s Role

Our scope of work includes:

  • Principal Contractor responsibilities across the facility.
  • Design, engineering, construction, testing and commissioning of the substation and Battery Energy Storage System:
    • Bulk earthworks totalling approximately 25,000m3 of introduced fill across the site.
    • Other civil works include, temporary and permanent access roads, stormwater drainage systems including detention basin, fencing, footings and foundations for the substation equipment, operation and maintenance facilities, batteries and power conversion systems (PCS).
    • Substation of 275kV 340MVA substation consisting of an incoming cable support, 275kV Bus Bar, Remote Operated Isolators, line and transformer surge arrestors, main power transformer, 33kV Neutral Earthing Transformer, 33kV GIS Switchgear, control and switchrooms and 33kV cabling.
    • Installation of free issue battery (160) and PCS (80) equipment, construction of operations and maintenance facilities, medium and low voltage electrical infrastructure, communications, SCADA, site security, firefighting measures and vegetation screening.
  • During the commissioning phase, GGC will lead site management and provide support for R2 commissioning activities.
  • Once operational, GGC will provide Operation and Maintenance services under a 20 year Contract.

With Notice to Proceed issued, GGC will commence construction this month, working with Trina Storage who have been engaged to supply the battery energy storage system. Our collaboration brings together industry-leading expertise to ensure seamless project execution.

The Limestone Coast North Energy Park is just the beginning. Stage 2 of the project, Limestone Coast West, has now received Australian Federal Government Capacity Investment Scheme support approval. This second phase will expand capacity to 250MW / 1GWh, further reinforcing South Australia’s position as a leader in renewable energy innovation.

Peter Schofield, Managing Director of Green Grid Connect, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating:

“We are delighted to be partnering with Pacific Green on this important asset for Australia’s energy transition. The dedication and hard work of the team have resulted in an outstanding outcome for the project.

The Green Grid Connect team is honoured to be part of this project, which represents another step forward in Australia’s renewable infrastructure.
We look forward to continuing our partnership and delivering a world-class energy storage facility.”

As Green Grid Connect continues to support transformative energy projects, we remain committed to driving innovation and delivering high-performance solutions that contribute to Australia’s clean energy future.
