Fulham Solar Farm

Project overview

The Fulham Solar Farm is an 80 MW utility-scale renewable energy project, incorporating a 128 MWh battery energy storage system to support grid stability and energy transition in Victoria.

GGC was engaged to deliver the high voltage substation required to enable connection to the Ausgrid 66kV network.

Technical Delivery

Works included delivery of a 66kV substation and associated infrastructure to support grid connection of both solar and BESS assets.

This includes installation of transformers, switchgear, protection and control systems, and integration into the transmission network in line with Ausgrid requirements.

Key Challenges

• All-Weather Site Access: To mitigate heavy rain turning site access into thick mud Gransolar constructed a durable all-weather access road, ensuring reliable, uninterrupted access for emergency services and operations.
• VRET Initiatives: GGC implemented a proactive, early engagement strategy focused on the local contracting base and service providers, while actively facilitating direct employment opportunities for local community members, including indigenous and marginalised persons.
• The Fire Management Plan required specific fire suppression systems for the switchroom, 2 metre safety distances from high-voltage devices, and a specialised, 4 metre limit firefighting access to battery storage (BESS).

Solution

GGC applied a structured EPC delivery model, integrating engineering, procurement and construction activities to ensure alignment across all project interfaces.

A phased and coordinated approach was implemented to manage complexity, maintain programme certainty and ensure compliance with grid connection requirements and Ausgrid technical standards.

As part of the project’s Victorian Renewable Energy Target (VRET) commitments, GGC also prioritised engagement with local, Indigenous and disadvantaged workforce participants to support broader socially responsible procurement and regional employment outcomes throughout delivery.
